Jean B. LeLacheur
Jean B. LeLacheur was a tailor who worked in Lowell and kept a grocery in North Billerica. In November 1913, while living in Lowell, he bought the vacant corner lot at High Street and Mellen Road in the Hillcrest development from George H. Hill, added the adjoining lot in 1916 and 1919, and built the house and store now known as the Jean B. LeLacheur House, where the family ran Le Lacheur's Market from about 1915 to the mid-1920s. The directories call him Jean B. and John B. Le Lacheur, and list him in 1919 as "grocer also tailor (L)," living at the store with his wife Ella R. LeLacheur. The same directory lists at the store Arthur J. LeLacheur and Paul J. LeLacheur, then in the Army and Navy, Edward G., a clerk in the store, and Gertrude M. and Irene E. Le Lacheur; Gertrude married James O'Brien in 1919 and Irene married William D. Scott in 1921, both in Billerica.
After the store closed he appears in the town's jury lists from 1925 to 1933 as a tailor. In September 1933 he and Ella sold the building to Harry A. and Helen M. Atamian of Medford and took back a mortgage, which he discharged in 1934 when the Atamians gave the property up to the Lowell Institution for Savings. The directories of 1949 and 1951 list Jean B. and Ella H. LeLacheur at 3 Twombly Avenue in North Billerica.
