Maple Street
The road entered in the wiki as Maple Street is the Carlisle continuation of Billerica's Treble Cove Road. Treble Cove Road runs southwest from North Billerica past Winning's Pond and the Nashua Road corner to the Carlisle line near Greenough Pond, and the street list accepted in 1899 describes it as running "from Fordway bridge running southeast to Carlisle line." Beyond the line the same old road, shown on the official town map of 1831 crossing into Carlisle, is Carlisle's Maple Street. A triangular granite corner monument of the Carlisle-Billerica line, listed in the 1907 boundary atlas as "C-B 7," stands in the woods off Maple Street near Greenough Pond. The boundary dates from the incorporation of Carlisle as a district under Chapter 42 of the Acts of 1779-1780.
Billerica had a Maple Street of its own, in a different place. In March 1901 the town voted, on motion of P. J. Sexton, "to accept the road known as Maple Street, in Fordway Park, North Billerica, as laid out by the selectmen," and raised $200 "to build and prepare the same for public travel"; the work was done in 1901 and 1902. The town's list of accepted streets printed in 1956 gives "Maple St. (N. B.)" as accepted on March 25, 1901, and the directories of 1912 to 1919 describe it as running "from Pollard to woods" and later "from Pollard byd Beacon northerly." A third street, Maple Avenue, ran north "from River n. Billerica R. R. station" in the Centre; the highway reports of the 1930s distinguish "Maple Street (Center)" from "Maple Street (N. B.)." None of these Billerica streets is the road near Greenough Pond, and the Billerica records give no name to that road before the town line.
