North Billerica Postmaster

Postmaster of the North Billerica post office, serving the northern village of Billerica. The office was established on January 26, 1852, with Joseph A. Burt as the first postmaster, and is still in operation (ZIP 01862). It was housed for a time near the railroad depot, then in the Talbot Mills library building on Talbot Avenue, and from about 1952 in a new building on the same site.

Postmasters and dates are from the USPS Postmaster Finder; the 1852-1878 appointments agree with Hazen's History of Billerica (1883). Years run from appointment to the year the successor took charge.

Acting postmasters and officers-in-charge (OIC) listed by the Postmaster Finder: Newell A. Ritchie (acting from August 31, 1943, appointed January 25, 1944), Henry B. Casey (acting 1957-1959), Ralph N. Newman (OIC from September 9, 1981), George R. Rushton (OIC from September 1, 1989, appointed May 5, 1990) and John S. Botti (OIC from April 12, 2012 and again from February 22, 2017). An unnamed officer-in-charge in 2026 is not included.
