The Pinehurst School had only been in operation four years before it was unable to cope with the massive influx of new students in Pinehurst and needed portable classrooms attached. Less than nine years after its opening, it was replaced by the six-classroom brick Ditson School in 1931. Pinehurst continued to develop, requiring the Ditson to add a twelve-classroom addition in 1949, and then further additions in the early 1950s. In 2001, a new facility was built on Cook St as the Ditson School. This building was used by the Middlesex Sheriff's Department until 2016, then stood vacant until it was torn down in 2021.
