The Billerica Mall opened in October, 1975 to much fanfare. It was anchored by Kmart and A&P. The corporate landlords were Billerica Mall Associates and Twenty-Fifth Billerica. In 2004, it sold to FB Billerica. In 2007, Home Depot had strong interest in opening a store in this location, but a citizens group called "Billerica First" managed to block it.
Kmart closed in February 2020, and plans were approved in 2021 to redevelop much of the mall. Market Basket closed in June 2022, and the former location of Kmart was developed into an Amazon Fresh, but the grocery store never opened.
