Thomas Francis Lyons became postmaster in 1889. He first rented out space from Jasper F. Bruce in the building next door. Lyons built this wooden structure by 1900, still on Bruce's land. Lyons eventually built a much larger building a little further north and vacated this building. This building was later lengthened and rebuilt with brick.
