Children Charles (b. 1848-08-06)

Charles H. Kohlrausch (about 1812 to 1895), also called Carl H. Kohlrausch, was the dyer at the Talbot works in North Billerica and the father of Charles H. Kohlrausch Jr., the chemical manufacturer who was for many years the moderator of Billerica's town meetings. The magazine Billerica recorded in 1913 that the father of the Kohlrausch brothers had been the dyer at C. P. Talbot's dyewood mill at North Billerica, where the manufacture of chemicals was added in 1849. His son Charles was born in Lowell in 1848 and grew up with the works. Hazen's list of the voters of Billerica in 1880 names both Charles H. Kohlrausch and Chas. H. Kohlrausch, Jr.

On November 24, 1885 Talbot Mills sold him, under the name Charles H. Kohlrausch, a half-acre lot on the east side of the old road from Billerica Centre to North Billerica, now Colson Street, for $200. The deed calls it "a portion of the Daniel Wilson homestead so called" and describes bare land, 120 feet on the road and 181 feet 6 inches deep. The two-family Kohlrausch House at 25-27 Colson Street was built there about 1886 and appears on the 1887 map.

He died in Billerica on November 23, 1895, aged 82 years and 11 months. His will left his property in trust for his widow, Hannah, for her life and then to his four children, Charles H. Jr., Matthew H., John H. and Hannah A. Kohlrausch. His widow, recorded as Hannah H. Kohlrausch, died on October 16, 1902, aged 83. In 1903 his son Charles, the only trustee still acting, passed the house to the three sons, and in 1909 Matthew and John released their shares to Charles.
