Thomas Patten
Thomas Patten was born in Billerica on August 6, 1838, a son of Deacon Aaron H. Patten and his wife Eliza Andrews of Boston. His father ran the cabinet works at Pattens Mills in Pattenville & Morningside on Content Brook, and the 1850 census finds Thomas at home there with his parents and his brothers, several of them already cabinet makers. His brothers included William H. Patten and Asa J. Patten, who died at Chattanooga in 1863, and his sister Mary Jane married Deacon Samuel H. King. On January 26, 1865 he married Fannie J. Proctor of Chelmsford.
His fathers will of February 11, 1864 left five dollars to each child, a house of her choosing to the widow for life, and "all the rest residue and remainder of my estate real personal and mixed" to Thomas, who was also named executor. Aaron H. Patten died on September 10 or 11, 1866, and Thomas came into the Patten land in Pattenville. In August 1874 he sold a lot of about seventeen by four and a half rods on the Andover road "with the buildings thereon," the Field House, to Emily Webster for $1,875, taking back a $200 mortgage, which he assigned that November to his brother William. Fannie J. Patten released her dower and homestead rights in the sale. Deeds of 1869 and 1887 still name him as an abutter on land near the Salem road and on Andover Street.
