Pinedale Park

Pinedale Park is a neighborhood of small house lots on the east side of Boston Road in the Pinehurst section, next to Pinehurst Manor and along Pinedale Avenue. Its plan, "Pinedale Park, Billerica, Mass., 1908," drawn at 100 feet to the inch (Plan Book 26, Plan 22), divided a tract bounded by "Main Street," as Boston Road was marked on it, and by land of Wonson, Prouty and Shedd into several hundred lots of about 2,500 square feet. Its streets were given stock names: Elm Street (now Pinedale Avenue), Pine, Maple, Birch, Chestnut, Oak, High, Arch, Summit, Crystal, Crown, Broad, Cross, Dale, Bedford and Brown. An Addition drawn by C. A. Thayer, the engineer of Nuttings Lake Park, in April 1911 and recorded Dec. 22, 1911 (Plan Book 29, Plan 3) added lots on Bedford, Crown, Crystal, High, Arch and Oak Streets near Main Street.

The name of the development later passed to its main street: Elm Street of the plan was being called Pinedale Avenue by 1925, and the town accepted it in pieces in 1926, 1927 and 1929. The 1925 plan of Pinehurst Manor shows the southern boundary of that development as land of the Pinedale Park Land Company. Brown Street was renamed Nealley Street and Folger Street in 1988. Most of the other streets stayed private ways for decades; Broad Street was accepted as far as Cross Road in 1935, Cross Road in 1953 and Crown Street in 1980.
