Israel N. Wilson
Israel Nelson Wilson (1828-1868) was a son of Daniel Wilson, the North Billerica carpenter known as "Boss" Wilson, and his wife Mary Aldrich. He was born in Billerica on July 20, 1828, one of eight children; his sister Adaline Maria married Gardner Parker and his sister Frances A. married James Faulkner. Hazen gives his wife's family name as Colwell, and the deeds name her Alma A. Wilson.
In December 1857 his father took over from Lott Easty the lot on the main road through the village, with a store near its northeast corner and the old Red House of Anna Mears Wood, and on November 8, 1858 he deeded it to Israel for $3,000. In June 1860 Israel and Lawrence B. Gannon together bought at auction a lot on the Concord River south of the Joel Dix homestead; he sold Gannon his half in 1867. In October 1861 he deeded the store lot through Thomas H. Adams of Boston to Alma, to hold as her separate property, and when his father died that November the probate papers described Israel as a captain then serving in Virginia.
In June 1866 the title came back to him through William H. Anderson of Lowell so that he could mortgage the place, as security for a $1,200 note at the First National Bank of Lowell. He died on September 29, 1868, leaving Alma and two daughters, Fanny A. and Annie D. Wilson, aged nine and seven. Hazen gives his death as 1867. His estate was the house and land, valued at $2,000, and household goods, among them a piano and a sewing machine, against debts of $4,230. Alma, as administratrix, sold the place at auction on November 28, 1868 to Thomas Talbot, who resold it to her the next day on a mortgage she paid off in 1873. She kept it until 1884.
